Fabrizio Romano has a new home at GiveMeSport and he’s used that platform today to speak about Joao Felix’s future at Chelsea.

Two games in a row where Felix has stayed as a sub despite his team needing a goal have started to raise rumours about how happy he is, and whether he would start to seek a move. But just as we have done before, Romano shut down that idea – at least for now. After escaping his nightmare at Atletico Madrid in the summer and signing permanently at Chelsea, we’d imagine there’s quite a lot more runway before any idea of a departure is considered:

“Joao has just arrived on a permanent deal four months ago, I don’t see Chelsea changing their stance on Joao in January. At the moment, the situation is completely calm,” Romano wrote.

A big question about Felix will be answered on Monday night. Pedro Neto has played a few games in a row, Mykhailo Mudryk is suspended and Jadon Sancho needs a rest. It’s all lined up perfectly for Felix to step into the team on the left wing, where we saw him succeed earlier in the season.

If he does play, and play well, it could trigger a run of games which carry him forward into 2025 with a bit of momentum. If he doesn’t get a start at Portman Road, on the back of two games where he’s been sat on a depleted bench with his team needing a goal, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if it becomes the tipping point for him starting to think about his future.

Maresca said he felt “shame” earlier in the season for not playing some players more – this is his chance to fix that.
