Manchester City’s Ruben Dias has issued a word of strength in light of the club’s seventh game without a win after Liverpool emerged 2-0 victors on Sunday.

Arne Slot and his players opened up a staggering 11-point gap on the Premier League champions over the weekend having largely cruised their way to victory at Anfield to inflict further issues upon Pep Guardiola’s season.

Full of confidence and topping both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, Liverpool dominated most of the contest despite momentary glimpses of control from the reigning champions.

And it is those moments of control, strength in character, and the ability to ride storms in front of an atmospheric Anfield that has stood out to one of Pep Guardiola’s most senior squad members after the game.

Speaking after the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, Ruben Dias insisted that he is “seeing through it” when discussing the club’s difficult run and believes he saw something that will give supporters plenty of hope for the remainder of the season.

“I am seeing through it and I saw a lot of character today and that is something that gives me a good feeling for what is ahead. Winning is all about that. We have a lot of winners in our dressing room,” Dias said.

The Portugal international continued, “In times like this it is all about mentality and keep on going and pushing and thinking one game at a time. Nottingham Forest is all that is on our mind and we want to win and that is how you break it.

“Today I saw little things that will help us move forward. This is just part of our legacy. We’ve won so much and still we are where we are and this happens. It is more about building and building the legacy. These tough moments will never stop coming in football.”

Issuing further words of wisdom, Ruben Dias went on to explain, “Football is the perfect example of life, sometimes life seems easy but it slaps you in the face and football is the perfect example of that.

“That is why we win again and again, we’ve been able to be versatile, adapt and keep on moving forward and thinking one game at a time. That is what we need to get back to. This is all about our legacy and building that and believing in it.

“We’ll see where we are at the end of the season. Now is just Nottingham Forest, Nottingham Forest, Nottingham Forest.”

Alongside the contest against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side this week, Manchester City will also find out their opponents for the return of the FA Cup to their fixture list, with the third round scheduled for early 2025.

City will also travel to face Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon as they look to turn around their fortunes immediately with a huge run of fixtures on the horizon across competitions this month alone.
