Ryan Sessegnon has said Fulham have an eye on the European spots after scoring his side’s second in a 2-0 win over former club Tottenham.
Sessegnon, who came on as a second half substitute for Marco Silva’s men, fired a wonderful effort into the top right corner on his weaker foot to extend the west Londoner’s lead late into the game.
Rodrigo Muniz had opened the scoring in the 78th minute before Sessegnon struck ten minutes later to seal the win for Fulham, who rise to eighth in the Premier League, four points off the Champions League places.
The 24-year-old’s celebrated was muted, out of respect for his former side, and the Englishman is relishing the chance to remain fit and help his team for the rest of the season, with a potential European spot on the line.
“It’s amazing, especially the way we won it,” Sessegnon said. “I’m happy to come on and contribute. It was a tough game and we took our moments when we needed to.
“Massive credit to the manager and as subs we want to come on and affect the game. Rodrigo is one of the best at it.
“I knew I could use my strength and speed to get ahead. I shrugged off Ben Davies a bit and I managed to get it in with my right.
“I’m feeling good, sharp and strong. I just want to play a little bit more. When I get the chances I want to prove I can play at this level.
“We’re taking it one game at a time but we’ve also got one eye on the European spots. It puts us right up there for the European spots, and it’s nice to get a goal as well.
“I was told to bring energy on the left-hand side. I was told to keep it tight but at the same time keep that threat going forward too.
“As a team we have one eye [on the European places] and we’re taking it game by game, we just need to keep going.
“I spent five years at Spurs and I’m grateful for my time there. So that’s why I didn’t celebrate.
“I enjoyed my time [at Tottenham], five years at the club. Playing-wise I didn’t play as often as I’d have liked, mainly because of injuries, but I still respect the club.”
