The Italian media have been relentless when it comes to Sandro Tonali, since his return to action this season after the ten month suspension ended.
The midfielder in ever increasingly stunning form for Newcastle United, as well as his national side.
Yet bizarrely, this has only increased the nonsense in the Italian media, as to Sandro Tonali supposedly set to return to Serie A.
All kinds of weird and wonder claims of pure invention.
Such as, Newcastle United supposedly willing to let Sandro Tonali go back to a Serie A club on loan in this recently closed January transfer window.
Then we had United allegedly keen on a straight swap, Sandro Tonali for Douglas Luiz, who has been a massive flop at Juventus and only started three league matches in six months.
Italian journalists shameless with claims of Sandro Tonali supposedly so unhappy at Newcastle United, desperate to return to any Italian club, the list goes on.
This despite the player himself repeatedly stating how happy he is at St James’ Park, how he is loving playing for Newcastle United and the NUFC, how grateful he is for the overwhelming support he received during his suspension and how he’s determined to repay that support.
Now Tonali’s agent has delivered the ultimate brutal truth to Serie A, Italian journalists and Italian football in general.
Beppe Riso saying that even if for some strange reason Newcastle United were willing to sell Sandro Tonali, the simple reality is that no Italian club could afford to buy him.
Newcastle United in summer 2023 paid AC Milan €58.9m (approx £50m at today’s exchange rate) for Sandro Tonali.
One of the best performers in the entire Premier League this season, Sandro Tonali has probably only been second to Alexander Isak in terms of his form AND value to Newcastle United.
Especially aged just 24, Tonali’s current value must surely be at least double what Newcastle United paid for him. Not that he should be sold by United at any price in my opinion.
Building a team around the likes of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, Sven Botman, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento is such an exciting prospect.
Beppe Riso talking to La Repubblica about Sandro Tonali, as the Italian media continue to embarrass themselves with claims the Newcastle United midfielder will return to Serie A, spurious reports saying the next summer (2025) window will see the midfielder go back to Italian club football:
