Atalanta try to shake off their Champions League elimination with this trip to troubled Empoli, as Ademola Lookman returns to the starting XI after that penalty row.

It kicks off at the Stadio Castellani at 17.00 GMT.

The last few days have been rough for La Dea, who crashed out of the Champions League play-off to Club Brugge, during which Lookman insisted on taking a penalty, which was then saved.

Gian Piero Gasperini confirmed in a press conference the Nigeria international was not meant to step up, calling him rather undiplomatically “one of the worst penalty takers I’ve ever seen.”

They tried to clear the air and Lookman is back in the Atalanta starting XI for the first time since his injury in late January.

Isak Hien, Daniel Maldini, Odilon Kossounou, Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca are still out of action.

Mateo Retegui is targeting the Capocannoniere crown and completes the attack with Charles De Ketelaere.

Empoli scraped just two points from the last eight Serie A rounds and slipped into the bottom three last week.

Luca Marianucci continues his two-match ban, with a lengthy injury list including Nicolas Haas, Tino Anjorin, Ardian Ismajli, Mattia Viti, Jacopo Fazzini, Ola Solbakken, Saba Sazonov, Tyronne Ebuehi and Pietro Pellegri.

Surprisingly, Christian Kouame gets his first Empoli start in attack, with Sebastiano Esposito in support.

Empoli: Silvestri; De Sciglio, Goglichidze, Pezzella; Gyasi, Grassi, Henderson, Cacace; Esposito, Maleh; Kouame

Atalanta: Carnesecchi; Posch, Djimsiti, Kolasinac; Bellanova, De Roon, Pasalic, Zappacosta; De Ketelaere, Retegui, Lookman
