The Gialloblu sides met at the Bentegodi on Monday evening in the penultimate match of Serie A Round 30.

The home side were without Harroui, Niasse, Faraoni, Suslov, while Hernani was suspended for Parma and Kowalski, Circati, Charpentier, Osorio, Benedyczak, Mihaila and Cancellieri were injured.

Verona had a better start as Daniel Mosquera hit the crossbar with a header from a corner kick. Central defender Valentini seemed to get on the rebound before Keita who hit his opponent with an accidental kick in the face.

There was a silent VAR check amid protests from the home side, but as reported by DAZN referee pundit Luca Marelli, officials opted against giving Verona a penalty kick as their defender put his head down, contributing to the dangerous collision inside the box.

Parma reacted immediately with a shot from outside the box from Pontus Almqvist, which finished inches wide at the near post.

Verona were dangerous again from another corner kick, but this time, Zion Suzuki managed to palm it away, and Amin Sarr was unable to find the net from a tight angle.

A few minutes later, Almqvist had his second chance when he squeezed past Daniele Ghilardi from a throw-in, but Lorenzo Montipò saved his header.

Mosquera had another opportunity before the break when he received a through ball from Duda, but a Parma defender deflected his shot.

The Ducali midfielder Bernabé had the first chance of the second half, but sent a free kick over the crossbar. Coaches Paolo Zanetti and Christian Chivu tried to unlock the game with some substitutions, but both sides seemed more interested in not losing rather than winning.

The following goal-scoring opportunity came with only ten minutes remaining when Montipò deflected a shot from outside box from Parma’s January signing Jacob Ondrejka.

Both Parma and Verona arguably had the best chances in the stoppages. First, Montipò saved with his feet a Kamara attempt at the near post, while Casper Tengstedt’s header from a promising position at minute 95 finished over the crossbar, leaving Verona with regrets but also one important point.

The Gialloblu are now seven points above 18th-placed Empoli, while Parma have overtaken Lecce in 16th, moving three points above the drop zone.

The Ducali will host leaders Inter in the next Serie A game, while Verona will travel to Torino.
