Manchester United U18s lost 4-0 to Manchester City in the U18 Premier League at the Carrington Training Centre on Saturday afternoon.
INEOS director of sports Sir Dave Brailsford and technical director Jason Wilcox watched the game.
United have made multiple U21 signings since INEOS took charge of United’s football operations.
The Red Devils had won all their league games before this game, including beating Man City in the reverse fixture.
The first clear-cut chance of the game fell to United. Chido Obi-Martin delivered a pass to James Scanlon, who squandered the opportunity.
The away side took the lead in the 21st minute when Ryan McAidoo lifted the ball over goalkeeper Will Murdock after receiving a pass from Finlay Gorman.
Obi-Martin got the chance to put United back on level terms but could only fire his shot straight at goalkeeper Max Hudson.
City extended their lead just after the restart. Murdock initially saved McAidoo’s effort, but Reigan Heskey was in the right spot to put the ball home from close range.
Murdock almost gave Man City the third goal after misplacing a pass, but the shot-stopper made amends by saving the resultant chance.
Obi-Martin squandered a big chance to reduce the deficit, heading the ball wide from Harry Amass’ well-delivered cross.
City scored the next goal five minutes after the hour mark.
Divine Mukasa delivered a corner kick from the right flank, which found Stephen Mfuni at the far post. He headed the ball home.
Murdock prevented the away side from extending the lead, saving Matty Warhurst’s close-range effort.
Midfielder Jim Thwaites lost the ball carelessly after almost wrestling the ball off a City player at the edge of the United’s penalty area, and the home side were made to pay.
Christian Dunbar-McDonald teed up fellow substitute Luca Fletcher, who calmly found the bottom corner, placing the ball beyond Murdock’s reach.
Man United are now four points behind City at the top of the standings, but they have two games in hand.
