Sergio Conceicao is no new name to Milano. He represented Inter as a player, and now he is the head coach of AC Milan, and he will be looking for a first in his second game in charge.

Milan’s new head coach has been a name mentioned heavily in the past year, with the Porto coach strongly linked to Stefano Pioli’s job during last season, and even during the summer when the Rossoneri were looking for a replacement.

However, the club did not land the Portuguese until mid-way through the season, which is a decision that many have questioned, even if it was the right one.

We must go back 20 years though to see when else Conceicao’s name was spoken of in Milano – when the Portuguese was playing for the team representing the other side of the city. The former-winger represented the Nerazzurri 42 times between 2001-2003, and today Sky (via Milan News) have re-capped his record.

His first experience of the Derby della Madonnina was a victory when Inter won 1-0 in March of 2002 when Christian Vieri scored the decider eight minutes after Conceicao entered the pitch.

The following season, the Diavolo got their revenge, winning 1-0 courtesy of a Serginho goal. Later in the season were the iconic Champions League fixtures, which saw Milan progress on away goals and then win the competition.

Monday will be the fifth meeting that Conceicao has been part of, and he will be hoping for his first win for the Rossoneri, and a positive record overall, with the scores currently 1-2-1.
