AC Milan don’t seem to be able to go a week without picking up a new injury issue, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be sidelined again.
After returning to the field in the second half of the Supercoppa Italiana final on Monday night, we have learned that Loftus-Cheek suffered a relapse yesterday and will not be available for the match against Cagliari tomorrow.
Conceiçao confirmed this in his pre-match press conference, stating: “There’s a small problem with Ruben, he won’t be there for the match tomorrow. He had a relapse yesterday, I’m sorry because he was growing physically.”
The midfielder will be re-evaluated in about a week due to the worsening of the problem with his right thigh flexors. That means he will miss the games against Cagliari and Como, but also almost certainly the trip to Juventus, with other matches this month clearly at risk too.
It is not the news that Loftus-Cheek or Conceicao wanted. The former Chelsea man has already had a testing season due to physical issues and not being in the best form, but the change in coach had provided a clean slate and a chance to show what he can do, perhaps in a new 4-3-3 system.
