Pedro Neto has been Enzo Maresca’s first choice right winger for a couple of months now, but he’s not paying back the manager’s faith with goal contributions.

He failed to get a goal or assist yesterday. He has one Premier League goal all season. That’s just not good enough from a player who wants to be a starter in a front 3 for a team aspiring to compete for trophies, and certainly isn’t good enough for a player who was essentially our marquee signing of the summer at around £55m.

His pace and work rate are a real asset, and we see why Maresca likes him. But his productivity needs to go up a gear. This run of 4 poor results has seen us score just twice, and Neto has not even had an assist since the end of October.

It’s only his first season here, but we really hope to see an improvement in the second half of the season from the former Wolves man.

Sancho’s impressive assist record

The good news, on the other hand (and on the other side) is that Jadon Sancho is doing much better. He provided Chelsea’s best moment of the game, touchlessly turning a Palace defender on the halfway line and dashing in behind, before poking a trademark outside of the pass jab through to Cole Palmer, who scored.

It’s been noted that that was the 24 year old’s 6th assist for Chelsea. It took him 15 games to get there.

At Manchester United he managed 6 assists in total, and it took him 83 games.

Sancho is not the perfect player, but he’s doing really well and there is more to come from him, especially if we get Neto to create an equivalent threat on the other side.
