Cameron Archer seems to have given up on his hopes of staging a comeback in the Southampton lineup.

Football is a team game, without a doubt. Hence, developing a sense of mutual communication and chemistry with teammates goes a long way in shaping a player's career.

As an example, centre backs often attempt to form a rock solid defensive pairing and strikers unite to work in tandem up front. On the contrary, there are multiple players who undergo a poor string of performances when their colleagues aren't enjoying a good form themselves.

Speaking about Southampton, the latter has been affecting them for a considerable period now. We are referring to the attacking department and notably the Ben Brereton Diaz and Cameron Archer duo.

The two centre forwards have shared the dressing room for almost an year combined at Sheffield United and Southampton. Coincidentally, both of those stints came in the Premier League but the duo faced contrasting fortunes simultaneously.

At Sheffield United they were scoring goals for fun, a statistic where they haven't succeeded at Southampton. Talking about the former, he called time on his struggling phase last month.

Though his teammate didn't jump ships, he too seems to have succumbed to the expectations of the number nine role. Recently, renowned journalist Graeme Bailey has shared a stressful update on Archer's situation.

Talking to Leeds United News, Bailey said: "Cameron Archer wanted the move, there is no doubting that – he wants to be in the Premier League next season and in the long-term. No doubt he feels he would be better served at Leeds than Southampton."

Don't get it wrong, playing in the Premier League is an ambitious goal. What isn't is the fact that Archer has accepted that he couldn't force a comeback in Juric's lineup plans.

Even Southampton as a club aren't in a good sporting position still they are trying to improve. Similarly, Archer should let go of the transfer thoughts from his mind and focus on giving his best efforts for the Saints until at least this remaining Premier League campaign.

After that, there comes preseason which will give him enough time to make any career decision. At present, let's see how Archer performs in the team training and matches from now onwards.
