Sheffield United have reached a loan agreement with Leicester City
Hamza Choudhury is set to undergo his Sheffield United medical on Monday following a loan agreement with Leicester City.
According to Sky Sports (11.31), the midfielder is set to join the Blades until the rest of the campaign.
Chris Wilder has been keen to bolster his midfield options this month amid the club’s pursuit of automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
Choudhury played a role in the Foxes winning the Championship title last season, but has struggled for game time at the King Power this term, making just four league appearances.
Sheffield United have agreed a loan deal with Leicester to sign Choudhury for the remainder of the campaign.
The midfielder will reportedly undergo his medical on Monday ahead of his proposed move.
It is understood that there is an option to buy clause in the agreement, meaning it could be made permanent in the summer.
Wilder will be pleased to strengthen his midfield options, with the club being linked with a number of players throughout the month, including Tommy Doyle, via The Star.
The injury to Ollie Arblaster has only emboldened Sheffield United’s need to strengthen in this area, with the 21-year-old on the sidelines with a long-term injury issue.
The Blades will be hoping Choudhury can help the club gain promotion after he played 34 times in the Championship last year as Leicester won the second division title on their route back to the top flight.
Sheffield United are currently second in the Championship table, two points clear of Burnley in third place.
However, the Clarets hold a game in hand, with Scott Parker’s side set to compete against Leeds United on Monday evening.
The Whites are one point ahead of Wilder’s team as well, meaning the Blades will likely be playing close attention to two of their rivals facing each other.
Next up for Sheffield United is a trip to face Derby County on 1 February.
Choudhury showed last year that he is very capable of competing at a high level in the Championship with Leicester.
He will add strength and depth to Wilder’s midfield options, which is particularly needed now with Arblaster on the sidelines.
Choudhury also has plenty of top flight experience to bring to the squad, and should be a solid addition to the team on the pitch.
If he can help Sheffield United gain promotion, then a permanent move in the summer would make a lot of sense as well.
