Sunderland remain keen on signing Kasey McAteer despite their initial bid being rejected by Leicester City, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
The Black Cats are in the market to sign an attacker as they look to strengthen their promotion hopes.
They are plotting a move for Leicester City winger McAteer, who has started only four times for the Foxes in the league.
McAteer played a key role in Leicester’s promotion last season and Sunderland are looking to use his experience.
Sunderland approached Leicester with an offer to take McAteer on loan with an obligation to buy him in the summer for fee in the region of £8m.
The Foxes have rejected Sunderland’s offer, but the Black Cats remain keen on securing the signature of McAteer.
Sunderland could return to Leicester with an improved offer, but they have to act quickly in the window.
Now all eyes will be on the Black Cats to see whether they will be able to strike a deal with Leicester before the window ends.
