Federico Dimarco will reportedly start in tonight’s handsomely-looking UEFA Champions League clash between Inter Milan and RB Leipzig.
According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Italian wingback will return to the starting XI after resting against Hellas Verona.
Indeed, Simone Inzaghi handed Carlos Augusto his first start since a 1-0 triumph at Young Boys on October 23.
The ex-Monza defender suffered a muscle injury in Bern, leaving Dimarco as the only option on the left flank.
However, the Brazilian regained full fitness last week, allowing the 27-year-old to take a breather at the Bentegodi.
Inter would thrash Paolo Zanetti’s underachievers 5-0 without their talismanic left-back.
But Inzaghi cannot afford to take on Leipzig without his first-team stalwart.
With the Nerazzurri bidding to uphold their near-faultless European record this season, Dimarco is in pole position to start.
Despite Dimarco’s significance to Inzaghi’s tactical set-up, he has barely featured for Inter in the Champions League this season.
Indeed, he skipped the opening-day clash against Manchester City due to muscle fatigue.
Red Star Belgrade offered no resistance to Inter on day two, allowing Inzaghi to rest his star.
Therefore, Dimarco made his Champions League debut this term against Young Boys, replacing the injured Augusto in the second half.
Matteo Darmian then occupied Dimarco’s place in a hard-fought 1-0 home triumph against Arsenal last time out.
However, it’s time for the highly-rated wingback to make his first Champions League start in 2024/25.
Meanwhile, Francesco Acerbi is out of contention for tonight’s game.
Unfortunately, the veteran center-back suffered a new injury setback against Verona.
Indeed, Stefan de Vrij took his place after only 15 minutes.
In addition, Davide Frattesi will likely start on the bench after picking up a minor ankle problem.
