It is not every day that a direct rival of FC Barcelona praises the club or the progress they have made. Despite failing to challenge for major titles consistently in some recent seasons, La Blaugrana have now seemingly turned things around. Across the board, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona is now a threat in every competition.
However, before the Catalan giants even get an opportunity to face off against Sevilla in their upcoming La Liga encounter, they already received some good news. In the recent Madrid derby between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, a 1-1 draw was the final outcome and both teams only came out of the game with a point each.
This was the perfect result for Barcelona, as a win against Sevilla would now take them only one point behind Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid and two points behind Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid. However, after the game, Simeone surprisingly spoke about Barcelona and confessed something quite positive about them.
As shared by Fabrizio Romano, the La Liga veteran confessed that he still thinks of Hansi Flick’s team as the best side in the Spanish First Division:
“I still insist that Barcelona is the best team in La Liga.”
He went on to elaborate further as well, speaking about some details that he appreciates about this current Barcelona side:
“They attack very well, they have incredible speed in their players, and they play very well as a team.”
An interesting insight, and generous praise considering that it came from a direct rival for the La Liga title. However, the league is far from over and there is still much work left to be done. While the praise should be appreciated, the focus of both Hansi Flick and his Barcelona players should be entirely on beating Sevilla right now.
The only way that the Catalan giants can capitalize on the result from the Madrid derby is if they win their own game. Any result other than a win against Sevilla would be disappointing, and the Barcelona head coach should be fully aware of that fact.
While it is true that La Blaugrana have been dominating their recent games, such as the 5-0 win over Valencia, they need to sustain that momentum. Heading into this next game, however, Hansi Flick already seems to have an idea about how he will approach it.
