In Tuesday’s night’s victory at home to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League, Bayern Munich put in another brilliant defensive display to make it seven clean sheets in a row in all competitions.

No doubt about it, a huge reason for the solid display was the performance of Konrad Laimer at right-back. Having come in for Raphaël Guerreiro, the versatile 27-year-old put in a superb defensive performance to help ensure another clean sheet.

Why Vincent Kompany should start Konrad Laimer on Saturday

Not only that, but his ball carrying helped Bayern to sustain attacks. His energy was a big plus on the night, and something that Vincent Kompany’s side may well not have won the game without.

As a result, the Austrian international must keep his place in the side for the huge game at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening. On the left-wing, Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens is a huge dangerman, with pace and trickery in abundance.

During his side’s win over Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday evening, the Englishman scored, completed 5/6 dribbles, won 8/11 ground duels, and created a big chance. He is a huge outlet and goal threat for Nuri Sahin’s side, and Laimer feels the best way to try and navigate his threat.

Whilst Guerreiro is a nice footballer, with plenty of technique, and will be looking forward to facing his former side – he does not have the speed and athleticism, and you would seriously worry about that match up with Gittens, particularly in transitional moments.

We know that Dortmund are a side that have a lot of speed in attack, and are going to look to spring counters on Bayern. With Alphonso Davies, Kim-Min Jae, and Dayot Upamecano, the backline is pretty well equipped physically, but Laimer would seriously ensure a safety net for those moments of transition during the game.
