Surprisingly, Liverpool FC was formed under tight circumstances after a dispute in the then-Everton committee arose. After the committee disagreed with John Houlding, the club president and owner of Anfield land, Everton relocated to Goodison Park in 1892. At this time, Houlding established Liverpool FC, which gained official recognition a few months later.
During the same year of its formation, Liverpool FC played against Rotherham Town in a friendly match and won 7-1. The team continued making outstanding wins until 1914, when they reached their first FA Cup Final, but unfortunately lost 1-0 to Burnley. However, this was not the end, as the team would later win the League championships in 1922 and 1923.
Both wins and losses followed until recently during the 2019-20 Premier League season when the team won the title. Surprisingly, this was the first domestic title Liverpool had thirty years after being in the English First Division season of 1989-90.

Bob Paisley is one of the best Liverpool managers whose influence goes beyond the pitch. By the way, are you aware that during his leadership, between 1974 and 1983, the team was able to secure about 20 trophies? Paisley won sensational three European Cups between 1977 and 1981 to further cement his legacy at Anfield.
How could we fail to mention the contribution of Bill Shankly, who didn’t just appeal to players but also supporters? During his time, players like Roger Hunt, who would later become Liverpool icons, joined the team. Shankly saw the team win about 10 trophies and set a high standard for future managers.
Other managers contributing to the team’s popularity include Jurgen Klopp, Rafael Benitez and Gerard Houllier, among many others. But lest you think this is all there is, Liverpool has also had iconic players add to its fame. Let’s start with Roberto Firmino. Did you know that, since 2018, the team could not have succeeded without Firmino? You’d be surprised to discover that even Jurgen Klopp would agree with this.
Until his final game for the club, Firmino’s unselfishness and work rate was central to Liverpool’s attacking style, ensuring the likes of Sadio Mane could score as many goals. Alisson Becker has added to the team’s defensive strength with his agility, quick fixes and unmatched ball distribution.
In 2002, this foundation was formed to take advantage of the LFC community’s power and passion to advance the lives of others. They do this by creating life-changing opportunities for the youth and families. A recent report noted that almost two-thirds of their participants were situated in the top 20% of the most deprived wards of the Liverpool City region.
As if that’s not enough, the LFC Foundation collaborated with IntoUniversity and the University of Liverpool to establish the IntoUniversity North Liverpool Centre in Anfield. This was the first time the IntoUniversity was involved in such a partnership. The foundation also supports over 83,000 people across the Liverpool City Region and beyond through its 50 programmes. With such moves, the team can solidify its appeal among local and international audiences, furthering its popularity.
As you can see from this discussion, Liverpool FC has had a remarkable journey since its formation in 1892. And perhaps thinking that it could have had such a global following then might have seemed illogical. But fame has been inevitable as the years have gone by and many high-skilled managers and players have continued to join the team.
Plus, LFC has other off-pitch activities where the LFC family can come together and make the lives of others also count. This way, the team enhances its appeal, solidifying its position as one of England’s most popular football clubs.
