Barcelona are champions of Spain again after sealing La Liga title success in 2024/25.
Hansi Flick’s side secured the Spanish title on Thursday night with a 2-0 win at local rivals Espanyol. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring with a spectacular strike, before Fermin Lopez’s stoppage-time second got the celebrations underway.
The win moved Barcelona seven points clear of nearest challengers Real Madrid with just two games to go. Flick has become just the second German manager to win La Liga, after Real Madrid’s Bernd Schuster in 2007/08.
Barcelona’s title success is also the 28th of their illustrious history, which includes 12 titles in the last 20 years.
However, the Catalans still have a way to go to match Real Madrid as Spain’s most successful side. Their eternal rivals are 36-time winners of Spain’s top division, with their most recent coming last season.
Atletico Madrid are the only other side to have reached double figures for La Liga titles (11), with Barcelona and Real Madrid having dominated the division.
In total, nine different clubs have won the La Liga title. The most recent side to claim the title outside of the top three was Valencia, who won the league under Rafael Benitez during the 2003/04 campaign.
Only Deportivo La Coruna (2000) and Valencia (2002 and 2004) have broken up the dominance of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid this century.
