AS Monaco have had an almost perfect start to the season. With four victories and one draw in their first five Ligue 1 games, they sit joint-top of Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille. Their league form translated in the UEFA Champions League with Adi Hutter’s side beating Barcelona 2-1 at the Stade Louis II in their league-phase opener.
Given their strong start, there is talk of a three-way battle for the Ligue 1 title this season. Whilst Monaco’s vice-captain, Thilo Kehrer (28), insists that the focus remains on hard work at the Principality club, he did nonetheless admit that the dressing room is aware of the narratives around a potential title challenge.
“Of course, we hear what people are saying about us, how we’re perceived from the outside,” began Kehrer in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News. “But honestly, we are focused on our daily work, on what we are already doing and what we need to improve. We are trying to concentrate on what we’re doing.”
Kehrer also revealed what he believed to be a key principle to continuing the current run. “We need to stay humble, keep our feet on the ground, not think that because we have good results we can let up,” said Monaco’s vice-captain.
