Spanish giants have made tried to sign England star in January
Arne Slot insists Trent Alexander-Arnold remains “fully committed” to Liverpool amid Real Madrid’s failed bid to sign him this week.
Speaking in a press conference on Friday morning, the Liverpool manager sought to avoid questions about the England defender’s future but did reveal Alexander-Arnold will start against Manchester United on Sunday.
Champions League holders Real Madrid want to sign Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer in July, when his current Liverpool contract expires, but tried to sign him in January with a bid on New Year’s Eve which Liverpool rejected.
Reports from parts of the Spanish media claim the rejected offer was a bid in the region of £20million.
Alexander-Arnold is not the only key player for the Reds who is due to be out of contract in the summer, with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah also approaching the end of their current deals.
Slot was asked whether he had spoken to Alexander-Arnold since news emerged of Real’s bid for the 26-year-old.
The Dutchman replied: “I speak to every player once in a while. For Trent that is the same, so yes, I spoke to him.

“I’m not going to share my talk with him. There have been links about our players in last six months. He is fully committed to us.”
Slot added: “I can tell you that he will play on Sunday, and hopefully he brings the same performance as for the last half year because everybody saw how great a first half of the season he had.
“He had an incredible game against West Ham, we all saw the pass he gave to Mo. I see him on the training ground every day working his ass off.
“If it would destabilise players at Liverpool if other people talk about them, then we would really have a problem, because if you play for one of the biggest clubs in the world everybody is always talking about you.”
Asked whether Alexander-Arnold can still improve, he replied: “There is always room for improvement for every player. Trent can still improve, I think.
“I've seen improvement already this season I think. Defensively he has made a step up this season. In some games he was outstanding.”
Spanish media outlet Marca last weekend ran a front page which claimed that the England right-back wishes to join La Liga giants Real and has informed the Reds that his mind is made up.
Meanwhile, Slot also revealed on Friday that defender Joe Gomez will be out for a number of weeks with the injury he picked up in the 5-0 win over West Ham on December 29.
Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate have both been sidelined with injuries but were due to train with the squad on Friday.
