Some lack of organisation led to some violent scenes at Old Trafford during the Europa League clash between Manchester United and Rangers.
When the two sets of supporters took their seats, it was plainly obvious that the Scottish supporters had exceeded their allocated quota. In addition to the congested away end, the Rangers also filled some sections of the home stands, much to the dismay of the Reds faithful.
This made for another embarrassing scene for INEOS who promised to maintain order ahead of this particularly sensitive encounter, but hardly managed to keep their word as evidenced by the anarchic scenes witnessed during the occasion.
But while the organizers failed to properly deal with some of the Rogue away supporters who crept into Old Trafford in manipulative manners, the Red Army took matters into their own hands – quite literally.
A circulating video online shows a few Manchester United supporters kicking out a Rangers fan who somehow broke into the home end.
In this short clip, the solitary Rangers intruder could be seen dragged down by the angry mob of Man Utd supporters who were irritated by his unacceptable presence among them. Insults rained down on the unlucky fella while one United fan could be seen swinging a punch at the unwelcomed man.
At this stage, we can only hope that the Man Utd officials raise their performance when it comes to organising these sensitive events, as the situation could have easily escalated even further amidst the tense atmosphere.
Thankfully for the Reds, Bruno Fernandes’ injury-time winner sent them home happy. The Old Trafford went wild when the club captain kept his composure to beat Jack Butland with a low volley to restore his side’s lead just a few minutes following Rangers’ equaliser.
