Villarreal star the subject of €60m Saudi approach | OneFootball

A member of the attacking ranks at La Liga outfit Villarreal is the subject of serious interest on the part of Al-Ahli.

That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Álex Baena as the player in question.

Baena, for his part, has of course long been making a name for himself as one of the standout talents in all of Spanish football.

After dazzling on his way to five goals and a remarkable 18 assists across the length of the 2023/24 campaign, the 23-year-old has since followed up with a further 10 direct goal contributions in 20 appearances this season.

Such ongoing excellence on Baena’s part has understandably begun to pique attentions amongst La Liga’s leading clubs, with the likes of Barcelona and Atlético Madrid credited with a keen interest in his signature.

Those behind the scenes at such clubs will, in turn, no doubt be concerned by the latest word regarding Baena’s future to have surfaced on Thursday.

This comes amid confirmation of keen interest on the part of one of Saudi football’s big spenders.

As per a report from Fabrizio Romano:

‘Al Ahli have serious interest in Alex Baena as they’re willing to trigger the release clause worth €60m for Spanish winger from Villarreal.’

The final decision will be left with the player himself, with Villarreal holding out hope of their crown jewel staying put.
