Saturday turned into a real party at the Allianz Arena as Bayern won their final home game of the Bundesliga season 2-0 against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The team were then presented with the trophy to kick off the celebrations. “This title was well deserved. We've been top of the table since the third game. We have an outstanding dressing room. Everyone contributed to that. The belief in the team is there. We're on the right track,” said board member for sport Max Eberl afterwards. “The goal was to be champions, and we achieved that. So, it's a good season,” added captain Manuel Neuer.
Munich also celebrated one of its own as Thomas Müller played his last home game for Bayern. “I'm also thrilled when I see what Thomas has achieved for this club. I'm not sure whether he realises what an impact he's had on people. That will have an eternal effect,” said coach Vincent Kompany. fcbayern.com rounds up the post-match reaction for you.
Max Eberl, board member for sport: “It was a very emotional day, really great. Thomas is a great person. We can only bow down to his achievements. This title was well deserved. We've been top of the table since the third game. We have an outstanding dressing room. Everyone contributed to that. The belief in the team is there. We're on the right track.”
Christoph Freund, sporting director: “It feels amazing. It was an amazing evening with a great atmosphere. Thomas’s farewell was also very emotional. It’s a deserved title. We’ve worked hard for it. The trophy is back home!”
Vincent Kompany: “It was a special evening. I'm obviously very happy that we're champions. But I'm also thrilled when I see what Thomas Müller has achieved for this club. I'm not sure whether he realises what an impact he's had on people. That will have an eternal effect.”
Thomas Müller: “Football and the people have inspired me in 750 games for Bayern. What's really great is that we were presented with the trophy in our own stadium. There are 75,000 hearts beating for me here, so I'm a bit scared. I can't take that for granted. I can't quite come to terms with it all at the moment.”
Manuel Neuer: “The important thing was that we got the trophy here in our stadium. It was perfect, even if I'd have liked Thomas to score another goal. But either way, I'm grateful to Thomas for my career. We've been on the pitch together so often. The city of Munich loves him. The goal was to be champions, and we achieved that. So, it's a good season.”
Harry Kane: “It's an incredible feeling after so much hard work. I'm really enjoying it and hope it's just the start. We've got a great team and a great coach. Obviously I'll miss Thomas. He's a legend.”
Leon Goretzka: “The biggest priority for me was for us to win back the title. That was our biggest job this year. And it’s obviously a great feeling to have done that. I think we played a really good season in the league this year.”
Josip Stanišić: “Everyone was just longing for this title. We wanted to put on a bit more of a show on the pitch today, which we maybe didn’t quite manage, but ultimately the most important thing is we’ve got the title here. I think the future looks good. We definitely want to go for more titles next year.”
