On Friday, we asked Newcastle United fans the question – Who do you want to win the 2025 FA Cup?

BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton had been reflecting on Newcastle United winning the Carabao Cup Final, defeating Liverpool 2-1.

Although that scoreline certainly flattered Arne Slot’s side, who were very lucky to get away with just a one goal losing margin.

Looking back on that 2025 Carabao Cup Final, the BBC Sport man declaring:

“We all saw how much winning the Carabao Cup meant to Newcastle fans after their long wait for a trophy.”

As we all know as Newcastle fans, this ended a 56 year wait for a major trophy, 70 years for major domestic silverware.

That is all in the past though…

However, for other clubs, it has also been a long wait for a trophy, indeed, some have never won a major trophy at all, ever!

That could change though in the next two months and Chris Sutton previewed the eight clubs who are still in with a shout of winning the FA Cup.

The BBC Sport pundit stating:

“Liverpool and Arsenal are out, and [Man] City are clearly not the force they were, so this feels like a big chance for the other teams left in it to get some glory – I just hope they try to take it.”

These are Chris Sutton’s FA Cup quarter-final predictions this weekend:

Saturday 29 March

(12.15pm) Fulham 2 Crystal Palace 1

(5.15pm) Brighton 2 Forest 0

Sunday 30 March

(1.30pm) Preston 0 Villa 2

(4.30pm) Bournemouth 2 Man City 3 (AET)

Here are the eight remaining FA Cup clubs and when they last won a major trophy:

Fulham – Never won a major trophy

Palace – Never won a major trophy

Brighton – Never won a major trophy

Forest – Won the League Cup in 1990

Preston – Won the FA Cup in 1938

Villa – Won the League Cup in 1996

Bournemouth – Never won a major trophy

Man City – 10 months since won the Premier League

With this poll of Newcastle United fans, I automatically expected Preston to be easily the top choice, underdogs and so on. Interesting then that Forest were clear first choice, maybe NUFC fans hoping that then with this distraction their Premier League form might fall away and give Newcastle more chance of a Champions League spot? Maybe you can tell me in the comments if you voted for them, Bournemouth as well.

No surprise to see Villa at the very bottom, although I am puzzled as to why anybody is wanting Man City to win the FA Cup? Unless that is also NUFC supporters hoping it will prove a distraction from the Premier League for them?
