Bayer Leverkusen find themselves in the Champions League Round of 16, a DFB Pokal semi-final, and eight points behind Bayern Munich in their quest to retain the Bundesliga title. And after making his first appearance following a broken fibula, Bayer forward Amine Adli believes they can end the season with silverware.
Speaking about Bayer’s Champions League chances, Adli said – via kicker: “With the team and the momentum we have, we can dream big, take the Champions League game by game and see where that takes us.”
After beating neighbouring FC Köln in the DFB Pokal, Bayer Leverkusen will face VfB Stuttgart for a place in the final. Last season, Die Werkself beat 2. Bundesliga side Kaiserslautern as they remained unbeaten in domestic football.
“We want to get to the final and win the cup,” added Adli.
On whether Bayer Leverkusen can close the gap to Bayern Munich, Adli said: “Eight points is obviously a lot, but you never know. We will keep putting pressure on them, game after game. We will all try to win. Then we will see what happens at the end of the season.”
Bayern Munich left it late to beat Celtic on aggregate on Tuesday night and with a Bundesliga game against high-flying Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday – potentially without Harry Kane – Vincent Kompany’s side have a difficult few fixtures.
Leverkusen meanwhile could close the gap to five points – with a win against Holstein Kiel – prior to Bayern’s game on Sunday.
