West Ham United have been heavily linked with a move for Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson this month.

The talented 20-year-old has struggled to break into Brighton’s starting line-up under Fabian Hurzeler, falling behind Danny Welbeck, Joao Pedro, and Georginio Rutter in the pecking order.

Ferguson has featured 14 times across all competitions this season but has started just two of his 12 appearances in the Premier League.

His lack of game time has forced the youngster to seek regular first-team minutes elsewhere, and a number of clubs across the country are lining up to lure him away from the Amex Stadium.

Despite widespread interest, West Ham are confident they can agree a deal with Brighton, who have softened their stance on a potential sale.

The Seagulls were initially only willing to let Ferguson leave on loan, but it is now believed a £40 million bid will be enough to snap him up on a permanent deal.

Despite the rumours surrounding Ferguson, Hurzeler remains coy on the striker’s long-term future, claiming he wants to work with the Irishman but also leaves the door open for a potential exit.

“I’m OK he’s in our squad, and really happy he’s in our squad and want to keep working with him,” Hurzeler said (via Sky Sport) in his pre-match press conference.

“But it’s important to discuss with him what’s important for the individual development of the player. That’s the main thing – we want to develop the players, help them.

“Then we see what makes sense for the player in the next six months – what makes sense for the club – then we make a decision all together.

“I felt in the conversations I’ve had with Evan that he only wants to play. That’s his main thing, no matter if it’s here or for another club.”

West Ham are keen to reunite Ferguson with Graham Potter, who handed the youngster his debut at Brighton but have yet to submit a formal offer.
