PSG midfielder Vitinha (25) is adamant Les Parisiens will turn the Champions League R016 tie against Liverpool on its head after losing the first leg 1-0. PSG dominated the proceedings at Parc des Princes and Liverpool had Alisson Becker to thank for. The Brazilian international pulled off an all-timer goalkeeping performance with nine saves to deny the hosts. In the dying minutes of normal time, Liverpool pounced to clinch an all-important goal courtesy of substitute Harvey Elliott.

A deflated Vitinha lifted the lid in the aftermath of PSG’s defeat to Canal+. The Portuguese international midfielder was left gutted by Liverpool’s ruthlessness, as Elliott scored on the Reds’ first shot on target. “It’s tough to play a game like this, against a team like this, with one goalscoring opportunity, only one shot.” Still, PSG and Liverpool are only at the halfway stage of the tie with the Premier League leaders hosting their Ligue 1 counterparts at Anfield on Tuesday.

“We will show the team we are, we will show our character”, Vitinha added. “We’ll win there. With the match we played, the victory was more than deserved. Like at the start of the season, we had lots of opportunities, but we failed to score.”
