An XI of the best West Brom players over the last 10 years
West Brom have had a lot of ups and downs over the last 10 years.
The team was battling in the Premier League a decade ago, with Tony Pulis taking charge of the team midway through the 2014/15 campaign.
The likes of Sam Allardyce, Darren Moore, Steve Bruce and Slaven Bilic have also managed the team between Pulis’ departure and Carlos Corberan taking over in October 2022.
Many great players have come through the squad during that time as well that have captured the imagination of supporters.
Here we look at the best West Brom starting lineup possible, if they could have held onto all of their best players over the last 10 years…
Sam Johnstone signed for West Brom from Manchester United in the summer of 2018, and spent four seasons at the Hawthorns.
He was a solid first-choice goalkeeper during that time, before earning a move to Premier League side Crystal Palace in 2022.
Conor Townsend made the left-back position his own in his final few years at the club, particularly excelling under Corberan.
His impressive performances earned him a move to the Premier League in the summer of 2024, making the switch to Ipswich Town.
Dara O’Shea was a standout figure during his time at West Brom, with the defender cementing himself as a crucial part of the first team squad.
His performances earned him the club captaincy before making the switch to Burnley in the summer of 2023.
Gareth McAuley spent seven years with the Midlands outfit, initially arriving in 2011, and went on to become a modern day club legend.
He made over 200 appearances for the team, and was key to their time in the Premier League, which included a best result of eighth in the table in 2013.
Darnell Furlong initially joined West Brom in 2019, making the switch from QPR, and was a part of the side that gained promotion to the Premier League that season.
He has remained a constant in the side since his arrival, and is now a key figure in Corberan’s first team plans.
Claudio Yacob spent six years at West Brom, arriving from Racing Club in Argentina in 2012, and made 160 league appearances for the Baggies in that time.
The Argentina international was a solid performer during his time in the Premier League, and contributed massively to their best seasons in the top flight.
Jake Livermore is another player that had incredible longevity at West Brom, spending seven seasons at the Hawthorns.
He made 68 Premier League appearances in that time, and was also crucial to their promotion to the top flight in 2020 under Slaven Bilic.
Serge Gnabry’s West Brom stint won’t be the part of his career that most people will remember when he hangs up his boots, having gone on to become an international star in the time since his loan move from Arsenal.
But someone of his calibre in Corberan’s side now would be more than welcome, even if his performances for Albion at the time weren’t the most inspiring.
Matheus Pereira is perhaps the first name on this team sheet, having made an incredible impact in a short spell at the club.
He contributed eight goals and 16 assists in their promotion to the Premier League in 2020, as well as another 11 goals and six assists in his sole campaign in the top flight with the Baggies.
Matt Phillips was a mainstay of the West Brom team during his eight years with the club, before eventually departing for Oxford United in 2024.
Salomón Rondón was a strong presence leading the line for West Brom during his four years at the club.
