Liverpool show their dominance at Newcastle

Scorers: Shaw 10', Enderby 12', 55', Smith 35', Capocs 45+1; Andrews 88'

Liverpool showed their quality with a 5-0 win at Championship side Newcastle United.

Matt Beard's side were ahead thanks to a stunning goal from Zara Shaw, who found herself in a central position and launched a shot on from 30 yards out. That attempt went sailing past goalkeeper Hannah Reid to put the WSL side in the driving seat.

Just two minutes later, Matt Beard's side had another when a neat passage of play sent Mia Enderby running through at Reid one-on-one, and the 19-year-old made no mistake with the finish.

Olivia Smith added the third as she steadied her feet inside the box and then neatly chipped the ball over the 'keeper.

Liverpool had their fourth in first-half stoppage time when Cornelia Kapocs beat her marker into the box and was there to stab home the finish from a dangerous cross.

Into the second half and the Reds continued to assert their dominance as Enderby had her brace when she was quickest to pounce on a loose ball inside the box and deliver a curling finish into the back of the net.

As the minutes ticked away, Newcastle grabbed themselves a consolation through Amy Andrews, who slammed her shot home with the outside of her boot.

The scoring was not over though as Leanne Kiernan added a sixth for the Reds deep into stoppage time.

West Ham come back to beat London City

Scorers: Asseyi 14', 72', Paví 71' Ueki 90+4'; Jacobsson 45+1'

West Ham took control of this tie early on when striker Viviane Asseyi kept her cool to slot the ball beyond London City 'keeper Grace Moloney.

London City clawed themselves back into it thanks to a top strike from Sofia Jacobsson.

Into the second half and the WSL side rallied with two goals in the space of two minutes.

The first came from Colombian forward Manuela Paví as her quick reflexes saw her pounce on the ball and put West Ham ahead. The second saw Asseyi deliver her brace, taking the ball round Moloney to put some breathing space between the two teams.

As the game moved deep into added time, Riko Ueki fired in West Ham's fourth to seal an excellent second-half display.

Leicester overcome Brighton in shoot-out

After a goalless 90 minutes, the tie went to penalties to decide who would be awarded an extra point.

The Foxes came through the shootout as 4-3 winners, taking two points from the game.

Crystal Palace see off Charlton

Scorers: Weerden 11', Gejil 24'

Crystal Palace took all three points with a 2-0 win over Championship side Charlton Athletic.

The WSL newbies took the lead after just 11 minutes through Dutch international Ashleigh Weerden, and that advantage was doubled through Mille Gekil just 13 mintues later.

The next round of fixtures in this competition takes place on Wednesday December 11th, with Liverpool set to face Merseyside rivals Everton.
