With just 23 seconds on the clock, Bunny Shaw got Manchester City off to a dream start. Slotting the ball beyond Becky Spencer, the Jamaican international wasted no time getting her team off the mark. With Spurs still reeling from the early blow, City were utterly dominant throughout the opening exchanges. Failing to clear the danger, the visitors conceded a second goal just 15 minutes later as Shaw bagged her brace. Jill Roord put the ball in the net to bag the third for the hosts however her effort was disallowed for an offside in the build up play.
As the first half wore on, the visitors began to find their rhythm as they pushed their opponents further up the pitch. Despite the increase in possession, Spurs were unable to take their chances with several attempts on goal going begging. The hosts went in at the break holding on to their two goal lead having dominated the first half.
The second half brought another bright start for Manchester City with Lauren Hemp forcing Spencer into a diving save inside ten minutes. Roord finally got her goal for the evening in the 66th minute, making up for her earlier disallowed goal. No sooner had play resumed, Shaw bagged her hat-trick to put her side four goals ahead. The three points leave City top of the table having dropped just two points from their opening seven games.
