Manchester United’s academy have received a major fitness boost.
Manchester Evening News report that Gabriele Biancheri took part in the Under-18s’ pre-match warm-up on Saturday afternoon.
The 18-year-old had shared the news of having undergone surgery following an injury setback.
His comeback to the warm-up session points to his ‘imminent return’.
Biancheri has been in sensational form this season, netting 16 goals in 17 appearances for the academy this season.
His surgery raised concerns among United fans, who feared he might be sidelined for an extended period.
However, it now seems that the young talent is nearing a much-anticipated return.
Though Chido Obi-Martin has certainly grabbed the spotlight since his move from Arsenal last year, Biancheri has continued to impress with his stellar displays.
The Welshman delivered a masterclass in December, scoring a hat-trick and providing an assist in United’s dominant 5-0 win over Coventry City in the FA Youth Cup.
He could have even bagged a fourth goal had it not been for a missed penalty opportunity.
Italian side Como came knocking with a transfer offer for the young star on deadline day but the Red Devils were swift to reject it.
Biancheri is held in high esteem at the youth level and could soon get his chance to showcase his talent to manager Ruben Amorim in pre-season.
United have struggled for goals at senior level this campaign.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have not scored in the Premier League since December.
Biancheri and Obi-Martin could be fast-tracked to the senior team if the first-team strikers struggle to find form or if injuries create gaps in the squad.
