Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have been called up by Brazil.
Newcastle United announcing (see below) the news on Thursday.
Is is the first call up in 16 months for Joelinton, who picked up his fifth and most recent cap for Brazil back in November 2023.
On that occasion the midfielder picked up the only red card he has received during these past six years since signing for Newcastle United.
With Brazil trailing 1-0 at home to Argentina, Joelinton brought off the bench. Within nine minutes he had been sent off, a ridiculously soft red card when he was being pulled back by an opponent, Joelinton pushing him away in the chest.
That was how the score remained for 10 man Brazil, it was the first home World Cup qualifying match they had ever lost.
Joelinton and Brazil have their chance of revenge, as after playing Colombia at home, then then play away against Argentina.
The fact that Newcastle United are out of the FA Cup and don’t have a match on the weekend of Saturday 29 March, means there is a clear week between that Argentina v Brazil match and Newcastle v Brentford on Wednesday 2 April.

Joelinton and Bruno Guimarães
The South American pair were initially selected in Brazil’s provisional 52-man squad ahead of this month’s respective 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina before the midfield duo were both named in the Seleção’s 23-man squad.
The five-time world champions, who last lifted the Jules Rimet trophy in 2002, host Colombia at the Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha on Friday, 21st March (kick-off 12:45am GMT) before facing holders Argentina at Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, 26th March (kick-off 12am GMT).’
