SV Werder Bremen fell to their fifth straight defeat in all competitions after a 2-1 loss against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday afternoon. A brace from Patrick Wimmer (6', 48') saw the Wolves take the lead, with a late goal from Mitchell Weiser (90'+1)  not enough to keep SVW from being left empty-handed.

First-half highlights:

6th minute: Wolfsburg take the lead. Skov Olsen delivers a corner into the box, with Wimmer able to redirect it in with his back from close range.

19th minute: Silva manages our first shot on target, forcing Müller to make the save. Shortly after, the Portuguese striker is unlucky to send his effort crashing off the post – so close to an equaliser!

29th minute: What a chance for the Green-Whites! Bittencourt wins possession and plays Stage through on goal, but the midfielder's shot is deflected wide after Müller gets his arm up to block it in the nick of time.

Wimmer gets his – and Wolfsburg's – second

Second-half highlights:

48th minute: Wimmer adds a second for the visitors. The Austrian lets loose a shot from 25 metres out that sails into the back of the net.

63rd minute: Following a corner, Werder are able to get the ball back into the box. Once again, Müller is on hand to deny Weiser. The linesman's flag then goes up.

69th minute: A huge opportunity to get one back! Bittencourt's free-kick finds Stage, who has time and space to take sight of goal. Müller is able to redirect his shot wide of the target, however.

90th minute: A late goal for the hosts! Weiser is able to place his looping shot over Müller and into the back of the net to cut the deficit. With four minutes of added time still to play, can Werder still find an equaliser?

90th minute +4: Full time. Werder suffer their fifth straight defeat. Next Saturday (8th March, 15:30 CET), they will travel to take on defending champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Summary: VfL opened the scoring early on through Patrick Wimmer before relinquishing control of the match to instead focus on defending. Werder came close to netting an equaliser just before the break, but Jens Stage saw his effort saved. After the break, Wimmer was able to extend Wolfsburg's lead with a well-struck shot from distance, putting the game out of reach for the hosts.
