A bit embarrassing from Unai Emery – Blames referee after Aston Villa outclassed by Newcastle United | OneFootball

Disappointing from Unai Emery after Newcastle 3 Aston Villa 0.

The Villa boss choosing to try and blame the referee after his team were outclassed by Newcastle United.

United led inside 90 seconds and Villa never looked like getting back into it.

I really like Unai Emery but he has let himself down with his post-match comments this time.

Newcastle were in control and with 32 minutes on the clock, Fabian Schar did a sliding challenge and as he cleared the ball ended up lying face down. Petulant Villa striker Duran then clearly intentionally, raking his studs down the back of the prone Schar.

Yet Unai Emery choosing to try and distract everybody from the failings of his team, by blaming the referee for quickly red carding Duran.

It was an absolutely obvious red card and if it had been seen as clear and obvious error, then VAR would have intervened.

Reality is that Unai Emery should be getting angry with his own team, especially Duran.

Which is surely actually the reality, with the Villa boss knowing fine well the truth, but trying to distract from the fact that his side were outclassed by United at St James’ Park today.

Unai Emery reacts after Newcastle 3 Aston Villa 0:

“Newcastle United here [at St James’ Park] are very strong and circumstances happened in the match which were key for the result.

“Always I am supporting VAR… but you have to use VAR.

“Today, the red card was clear for the referee straight away, he was the only person in the stadium who couldn’t take his time.

“He has to be intelligent to take time and get the right decision.

“In this case you have to use the VAR.

“He has to be smart and calm.

“It has to be like that.

“The red card more or less kills the game, it changes it completely.”
