Our Academy will once again play a part in marking this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day.

Holocaust Memorial Day is marked each year on January 27 to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi Persecution including the LGBTQ+ community, disabled people, Roma and Sinti and others.

This year’s Holocaust Memorial Day marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia. The theme of HMD 2025 is ‘For a Better Future’.

For our Academy players, remembering and honouring the Holocaust is a vital and ongoing part of their season-long educational programme delivered in conjunction with the Premier League.

Part of this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day remembrance will include an event at Carrington delivered alongside Manchester United’s Academy.

The week’s event will see both teams’ Under 14s take part in a talk with Noemie Lopian, the daughter of Holocaust survivors Dr Ernst Israel Bornstein and Renee Bornstein.

Noemie, the child of holocaust survivors and a former resident of Germany until the age of 13, spends her time educating the next generation by informing them about the atrocities that sadly formed the Holocaust.

City’s Under-14 Academy players will then join their Manchester United counterparts to play a match, holding a minute’s silence to honour all those who lost their lives in the Holocaust, as well as in subsequent genocides.

The captains will also present a special Holocaust Memorial Day pennant to mark the occasion.

Later in the season, a small number of Academy players will travel to Auschwitz to further develop their understanding.

As part of the Academy’s Holocaust Memorial Day remembrance activities this year, the Club will also encourage fans to light a candle in their window at 8pm to mark the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust’s #LightTheDarkness national moment.
