With the January transfer window open, now is the perfect time for Manchester City to strengthen their squad. But as we have seen previously the January transfer market is typically a difficult time for teams to land their ideal transfer targets. That is something the world champions will have to face this month. It may take Manchester City spending big this month to land the players they need to aid their cause for the remainder of this season and beyond.
There are two players who may fall into that category for Manchester City. Those are Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush and Atalanta midfielder Ederson. The case of Ederson has been covered previously. Fabrizio Romano has previously reported for GIVEMESPORT that it will likely take more than €50 million for any team to sign the Brazilian midfielder. Now, it seems a similar situation may unfold with Omar Marmoush.
Reporter Jan Aage Fjørtoft has reported via X that Manchester City are eager to sign Marmoush in January. Furthermore, Fjørtoft adds that Eintracht Frankfurt has no intention of selling the Egyptian international this month. He is seen as integral to the second half of Eintracht’s season. Lastly, Fjørtoft adds that it may take a bid of up to €80 million from Manchester City to force Eintracht Frankfurt’s hand in January. Lastly, he adds that this scenario appears unlikely.
The possibility that this month’s transfer window could prove to be difficult for Manchester City to navigate was always there. Teams are less likely to sell their most important players in the middle of the season. That can be said of Ederson and Omar Marmoush. The pair are both crucial to their team’s push for honours this season. Ederson is a key component of Atalanta’s midfield. Marmoush is Eintracht Frankfurt’s top scorer this season. Both players would not come cheap if City did push hard to sign them. But the question is: Is that something the world champions are prepared to do?
That’s the million dollar question. Pep Guardiola’s squad needs reinforcements. Carrying on with the status quo would likely do Manchester City no good. They need fresh legs and fresh faces to rejuvenate their squad. But to get them in they may have to pay over the odds to do so. Teams know City have the funds and are desperate to add quality to their squad. This will see them raise the price of their prized assets. Typically, Manchester City walk away from transfer negotiations when the price goes above their valuation of a player. We’ve seen that occur on countless occasions. But this time is different as they are desperate to bolster Pep Guardiola’s squad. So their hand may be forced this month to pay more than they usually would to land their ideal transfer targets.
We won’t know until the January transfer window closes whether or not Manchester City are prepared to spend big to land players such as Omar Marmoush and Ederson. But you get the sense they may have to given how desperate they are for quality additions to their squad. It’s not the ideal situation for the Premier League champions but it’s the one they find themselves in. Whether or not they push that extra yard in the market may dictate whether or not they land their transfer targets this month. That’s the reality of the situation.
