Arne Slot has to watch two Premier League matches from the stands because of his behaviour at the final whistle in the Merseyside Derby. Assistant Sipke Hulshoff is also supsended for two matches.

Slot was sent off after the controversial 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park, prompting the FA to charge both him and assistant Sipke Hulshoff. Both were accused of ‘allegedly acting in an inappropriate manner and/or using insulting and/or hurtful words and/or behaviour’ towards match officials.

An independent panel later heard the statements of referee Michael Oliver and his team, as well as those of Slot and Hulshoff, and decided on a suspension. It has now been confirmed that Slot and Hulshoff will be suspended for the next two matches against Newcastle United and Southampton.

For the former Feyenoord boss, it is already his second suspension of the season. He had already missed the quarter-final victory in the Carabao Cup against Southampton due to a pile-up of yellow cards in the Premier League. In the absence of both Slot and his assistant, Liverpool assistant John Heitinga is expected to take charge in the dugout.

Slot has also been fined £70,000 (approx. €85,000), while Hulshoff has been ordered to pay a fine of £7,000 (approx. €8,500). Everton and Liverpool have been ordered to pay £65,000 (approx. €68,000) and £50,000 (approx. €60,000) respectively for failing to restrain their players.
