Arsenal support frustration as Celtic bound Kieran Tierney left on bench

The 27-year-old, set to join Celtic in the summer, remained an unused substitute as Arsenal fell 1-0 to the French heavyweights in the first leg of their semi-final at the Emirates.

Ousmane Dembele scored early for PSG

Ousmane Dembele quieted down the home supporters with a fine finish after four minutes, linking up with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to slot the ball past David Raya.

Makeshift forward Mikel Merino believed he had levelled the score just after half-time, but VAR intervened, flagging the Spaniard offside and dashing the hosts’ hopes. Mikel Arteta’s side now faces a tough task to turn the tie around in Paris next week and secure a spot in the final in Munich next month.

Kieran Tierney, set for an emotional return to Celtic Park this summer, had played in all four of Arsenal’s Champions League knockout matches, helping them defeat Real Madrid and PSV in earlier rounds.

However, the Scotland international was left on the bench on Tuesday night, puzzling Arsenal fans who had been urging for the versatile defender – who’s also played as a left-winger – to replace Belgian Leandro Trossard.

As Arsenal pressed for a crucial equaliser, one fan posted on X: “Kieran Tierney ON please.” Another commented: “I’d take subbing on Tierney or Zinchenko for Trossard right now.” A third added: “I forgot Kieran Tierney was available too. Bring him on for Trossard.”

Arsenal will now look to keep their Champions League final hopes alive next Wednesday at the Parc des Princes. For Celtic supporters, it would be incredible to have a Champions League winner walking through Paradise this summer at the peak of his career. Most importantly, hopefully KT remains fit and doesn’t get injured on his way out of the Gunners.
