Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says the club are “very worried” about Gabriel Jesus after the forward sustained an injury at the weekend.
The Brazilian started in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the FA Cup third round, which the Gunners lost on penalties. But he was forced off the pitch after 41 minutes and replaced by Raheem Sterling.
It has been reported that Jesus has suffered a suspected ACL injury and could miss the rest of the season in the latest blow to the 27-year-old’s career.
“We know more now. It is not looking good at all,” he said. “We need to review with one more specialist and will have better information this afternoon.
“I don’t want to confirm anything until we have the final report this afternoon. We were very worried straight after the game and we are very worried today.”
Arsenal currently have seven players that are either sidelined or doubtful for Wednesday’s North London Derby against Spurs, including key men such as Bukayo Saka and Ben White.
Riccardo Calafiori missed the United game with a muscular injury, but could return to face Tottenham. Jurrien Timber and Jorginho were subbed off late on with issues, but Arteta revealed they were suffering with cramp.
“We have one more training session,” Arteta said. There are a few that are close but this afternoon we will have the full information.
“[Calafiori’s] thing is not too much. We need another day or two – 24 hours become really important when you are playing every three days. We will have more understanding this afternoon.
“[Jorginho] was cramping in extra time, he is fine. Jurrien [Timber] was exactly the same. We had a few players that were struggling to finish the game.”
