Arsenal vs Tottenham: Preview, predictions and lineups

It's rarely a dull occasion when the north London rivals collide, with Arsenal welcoming Tottenham to the Emirates on Wednesday night.

We've seen far superior Spurs teams fail to triumph at the home of their arch-rivals in the Premier League since their come-from-behind 3-2 win in 2010, but Ange Postecoglou's team must sense vulnerability within the Arsenal ranks ahead of this meeting.

The Gunners are struggling in Bukayo Saka's absence and head into the derby having been beaten by Newcastle and Manchester United in two different domestic cup competitions. Their inability to convert chances has led to their recent demise, and they must stumble upon a solution in the January transfer window to reignite their season.

Defeat here could all but end their Premier League title hopes.

An array of injuries has undermined Tottenham's campaign, but they're still going strong in three cup competitions. Wins over Liverpool and Tamworth, even if it took them way too long to get the job done on Sunday, means the mood within Ange's camp is bright, and they can play without inhibition on Wednesday given that they're playing for very little in the Premier League.

A barren run in the competition means they're currently 12th in the table - 16 points adrift of Arsenal.

Here's 90min's guide to Wednesday's North London Derby.

Arsenal's injury woes worsened over the weekend, with Gabriel Jesus tearing his ACL during their FA Cup defeat against Man Utd.

Riccardo Calafiori is a doubt after missing Sunday's cup tie with a muscle injury. Myles Lewis-Skelly will be used at left-back if the Italian international isn't fit. Jorginho and Jurrien Timber were also forced off against United, both are expected to be fine for Spurs' visit.

The hosts are still without Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a concussion against Liverpool last week / Julian Finney/GettyImages

It seems as if the Spurs squad survived Tamworth's frozen 4G pitch, although Postecoglou still has an array of absences to deal with.

The Aussie coach could welcome Richarlison and Ben Davies back to the matchday squad on Wednesday, but Tottenham are still without Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Wilson Odobert and Destiny Udogie.

Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a concussion during last week's 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup and shouldn't be out of action for too long after missing Sunday's cup victory.

Antonin Kinsky's third start for the club will arrive in the North London Derby. The young Czech goalkeeper has manifested nothing but assurance between the sticks so far.

Tottenham predicted lineup vs Arsenal (4-3-3): Kinsky; Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence; Bissouma, Bergvall, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son.

Arsenal vs Tottenham score prediction

Arsenal's inefficiency in front of goal can no longer be seen as the Gunners being on the wrong end of some rotten luck. It's a skill issue. They're bereft of 'killers' in the final third, especially with Saka out.

However, they continue to assert impressive control on matches and should have success against Tottenham's build-up here given the visitors' prolific injuries in defence. Spurs, though, have shown signs of growing as a unit with several key pieces absent, and Kinsky has almost immediately emboldened the backline.

We may not be subject to thrills and spills here, but there may well be late drama in a tense Emirates draw.
