Arsenal are interested in signing one of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ best players during the winter transfer window, according to the Telegraph.

The Gunners’ campaign has been frustrating by their high standards. They are nine points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Arsenal have been let down in the final third due to the inconsistency of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus up front, and they could spend big on a marquee forward.

They reportedly have their sights set on signing Wolves’ Matheus Cunha. Their interest was sparked before Bukayo Saka’s hamstring injury.

However, a transfer during the winter transfer window looks improbable. Wolves are extremely reluctant to part ways with the Brazilian due to their relegation dogfight.

Arsenal unlikely to prise Cunha away from Wolves

Cunha signed for Wolves from Atletico Madrid in January 2023 with a conditional obligation to buy for £42 million.

The 25-year-old had an average debut season but stepped up last term with 22 goal contributions for the Midlands outfit.

He has replicated the performances this season with 14 goal involvements from only 19 appearances.

Wolves have spent most of the season in the drop zone, but Cunha has been a standout player in almost every game.

He would be an ideal signing for the Gunners due to his all-round attributes.

Cunha’s versatility could be a major reason behind the Gunners’ interest, but Wolves could resist sanctioning his sale in the near future.

The club have had financial concerns but could wait until the end of the season before cashing in.

Pedro Neto left Wolves for Chelsea for a reported fee of £54m. It could take a similar package to land Cunha next summer.
