Arsenal head to Newcastle United this evening looking to overturn their Carabao Cup semi-final tie.
Mikel Arteta’s team are 2-0 down on aggregate after a disappointing defeat at the Emirates last month.
However, the Gunners will take confidence from a 5-1 thrashing of Manchester City in the Premier League at the weekend. Arsenal dismantled the champions at the Emirates, with five different goalscorers including teenage duo Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri.
Newcastle impressed in their win in North London last month but have been inconsistent since. Consecutive home defeats to Bournemouth and Fulham have dented the Magpies’ hopes of Champions League qualification. That said, Eddie Howe’s side are just two points outside the top four.
If defeat is avoided tonight, Newcastle will reach the Carabao Cup final for the second time in three seasons.
Mikel Arteta has no new injury concerns ahead of the trip to Newcastle tonight. Arsenal remain without Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu.
David Raya overcame a muscle injury to start the weekend win over Manchester City and will continue in goal, with on-loan Bournemouth ‘keeper Neto cup-tied. Ethan Nwaneri will hope for a start after scoring in the win over City. The 17-year-old has scored three times in the Carabao Cup so far this season.
Arsenal predicted XI: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Nwaneri, Martinelli, Havertz.
Newcastle host Arsenal in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday 5th February 2025. Kick-off at St James’ Park is 20:00 GMT.
The second leg of this Carabao Cup semi-final will be available to watch on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Ultra, Sky Go UK and NOW UK.
