Roberto De Zerbi is regarded as one of the most promising and interesting young managers in the world and it is important to remember that his journey in the top level of football started in Serie A.
The Italian rose to prominence during his stint with an exciting Sassuolo side, before moving to Ukraine with Shakthar Donetsk. He then went to Brighton in the Premier League, who he guided to their first foray into the Europa League in the history of the club. Right now, he’s doing an impressive job with Marseille in Ligue 1. Last summer, Marseille paid his €6m release clause to bring him to France. With his recognisable attacking albeit risky style of football, he has managed to guide the club to second in the league, ahead of the likes of Lyon, Nice and Monaco. That being said title hopes are pretty much over after this weekend’s loss to table toppers PSG which left them 19 points adrift. Marseille apparently have a three year plan with him, which is well on track and they have backed him in the market as well, signing notable players such as Amine Gouiri, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and Adrien Rabiot. That being said, his name is once again begining to prop up in managerial discussions for big clubs in Italy as per Daniel Longo (via calciomercato.com). Juventus are big admirers of him and if they were to part ways with Thiago Motta, a move for De Zerbi could happen.
The 45-year-old has a lot of respect for the Bianconeri and it is unlikely that he will say no if such a situation were to arise. It has also been reported that Milan is the club of his heart and that is a challenge he would enthusiastically accept. However such a move would depend heavily on the Milan board, especially their next sporting director.Kaulik Mitra | GIFN
