It's known how much Unai Emery wants to retain the services of Marco Asensio for Aston Villa on a long-term basis. Fans can very easily see why. The Spaniard has impressed since arriving at the Premier League side, and the manager looks to make his move a permanent one.

PSG is doing well in Ligue 1, with a comfortable lead there. The French side has also progressed through and will face Villa in the Champions League quarter-final. While players potentially facing the possibility of their parent club is something of a strong theme this season, Asensio will be able to suit up for the fixtures.

The manager, however, will want this to go a step further. According to reports from Give Me Sport, Emery is pushing the admins at the club to finalize a permanent deal for the midfielder. As of now, the current agreement does not include an option for the club to buy or extend Asensio. Seeing as the French team is doing well without him, and their likely desire to build depth through their own youth players, PSG could be inclined to grant Emery's wishes to come to fruition.

Without an obvious path to make the starting XI and a good current run in the EPL, the player is likely to be more than willing to make Villa his permanent home as well. According to the report, around £40 million would do the trick to lure Asensio away from PSG.

Timing right to solidify Aston Villa future

At 29 years old, he still has plenty to offer. His impact has been terrific under Emery, and he's showing the ability to be a high performer. The current proposal by the manager to get something done now is smart from the manager. Asensio's current price and market value are known, and he knows that the player fits his system. Waiting too long into the summer could further complicate matters, including PSG potentially holding out for more money.

More importantly, if something, for whatever reason, can't be worked out, then the options to replace his production would be much smaller versus knowing early in the transfer period. Everyone knows that Aston Villa wants to retain Asensio anyway. Emery, therefore, urging the club to solidify the Spaniard soon, allows for this business aspect to be taken care of, and the attention can turn to other areas.
