In a bid to bolster their attacking ranks, Aston Villa are looking to buy a new striker in the summer transfer window. And their latest target could turn a few heads. Yes, according to a report by Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Villa are keeping watch over Juventus' Dušan Vlahović. The report reveals that the Serie A giants value the Serbian front-man at £33.5 million.
Following Jhon Durán's departure from Villa Park back in the January window, Unai Emery's striking options have been somewhat threadbare. Even though Marcus Rashford, Donyell Malen and Marco Asensio all came through the door, Ollie Watkins remains the only out-and-out striker at the club. So a potential move for Vlahović makes all the sense in the world - especially at that price.
Admittedly, it hasn't been Vlahović's finest season in Italy. He's only made 23 appearances in Serie A this term, scoring nine goals. But his previous contributions to Juventus can't be ignored. The Serbian international bagged 16 league goals in the 2023/24 campaign. In the right environment, he's a player with a deadly finish. Could Emery get the best out of Vlahović at Villa?
He'd certainly be a welcome addition to the squad at the moment. Villa are still fighting on three fronts at this stage of the season. They're chasing silverware in the FA Cup and the Champions League, while eyeing another European finish in the Premier League. But their inconsistency has been hurting them this term. Emery's men are currently ninth on 45 points having won just two of their last five games. Mind you, Villa are only four points off Chelsea in fourth, such is the congested nature of the English top flight this year.
Going back to Vlahović, though, Villa aren't the only club who are interested in his services. According to Galetti's report, Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United might be looking to make a move for the striker this summer, too. Meanwhile, European heavyweights Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also lurking in the background. It could turn into quite the race for the Serb.
Arsenal were another interested party in Vlahović back in January, but the report notes that they've zoned in on different targets ahead of the summer window. So it's going to be very intriguing to see what the striker chooses to do. If he picks Villa Park, the Midlands club will be in a great position to go again.
