Athletic: Chelsea starlet who has already shone in Europe has two great options for his future

The Athletic’s report on Chelsea’s transfer window was very focused on the players they’re trying to buy and sell, but there was a bit in there about one of our talented young players who also could potentially make a move this week.

Sam Rak-Sakyi is apparently wanted by Coventry City, who are climbing up the league following the appointment of Frank Lampard as manager. “Clubs in Europe” are also interested, although we’ve yet to hear anything solid on that front.

According to the Athletic, SRS’s future will depend on what happens with our other unwanted midfield options. Cesare Casadei looks set to go, and if Carney Chukwuemeka or Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall join him, the youngster is more likely to stay at Cobham to keep the numbers up.

As it stands though, nobody is gone yet, and there’s nothing concrete on the latter two at all, meaning a loan out for Rak-Sakyi should still be on the cards.

Two good options for Rak-Sakyi should mean an exciting second half of the season either way

The fact is that Rak-Sakyi has two really good options on the table here. A move to Coventry would likely see him go straight into the team and pick up many important minutes at a good level to continue his development.

Players who have come through the academy have already had years of the finest coaching available – what they need is proper senior match experience, and we’ve seen countless times over the years that the Championship is a great place to get it.

Equally if he does stay, given our shortage in central midfield, we’d expect him to continue to train with the first team squad at Chelsea, giving him time to impress Enzo Maresca further and to hopefully pick up further appearances in the cup competitions.
