Enzo Maresca says Chelsea striker Marc Guiu will be out for a while with a “bad injury”.

The forward suffered the injury in the win over West Ham on Monday night and Maresca revealed he is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

“Marc unfortunately has a bad injury,” he said.

“We are still waiting but it doesn’t look a short injury. It looks a long injury. Exactly how long, I don’t know.”

Fellow forward Nicolas Jackson is not expected to be out for a long time, however, after being forced off against West Ham.

“Nico is better,” he said.

And asked whether he could be available to face Brighton in the FA Cup, Maresca continued: “He could be.

“But he could be a risk, we’ll see. But it doesn’t look like a long injury.”

Midfielder Romeo Lavia, meanwhile, is again set to miss out with the muscle injury that has kept him out since the draw with Bournemouth in December.

“Romeo is still in the process of coming back,” Maresca said.

“But he still has a long way to go.”

Chelsea brought in just one new signing in January in midfielder Mathis Amougou despite reports they were looking to strengthen in the forward positions.

And despite the departure of Joao Felix on loan to AC Milan and the injuries to Guiu and Jackson, Maresca says he is happy with the options he has.

“Absolutely,” he said.

“We had, before the last game, two strikers. Nico and Marc. Sometimes we also had Christopher (Nkunku) there but in case both (Guiu and Jackson) are out, we are going to find some different solutions.”

On Felix’s departure, Maresca explained: “Players want to play all the games. We decided altogether that it was a good option for him to leave.

“He never complained. He has been very good with us and professional.

“I think we need defensive balance and when you have so many attacking players, sometimes you concede transitions or goals.”
