Robert Lewandowski's second half strike was enough to help Barcelona beat Alavés 1-0 on Sunday.

With Real Madrid having dropped points at Espanyol on Saturday evening, Barcelona came into this afternoon's clash knowing that a win would take them back to within four points of the leaders.

The game was delayed early on as Gavi and Tomas Conechny were involved in a very worrying clash of heads. Both players had to go off with Fermin Lopez and Carlos Martin on in their respective places.

Lamine Yamal was at his mercurial best with the teenager slaloming his way through the opposition defence on a number of occasions.

As it was though, the Blaugrana struggled to really test the Alavés defence and went into the break goalless.

Into the second half and on the hour mark the deadlock was finally broken as Robert Lewandowski volleyed in after a smart cross from Raphinha.

And that was how it stayed as the Catalan club made up ground on the Madrid sides.
