Dean Huijsen has emerged as one of Europe’s hottest prospects following a standout season at Bournemouth and a recent debut for Spain in the Nations League.
The 19-year-old center-back has drawn attention from both Barcelona and Real Madrid, with his ambidexterity, aerial prowess, and ball-playing ability making him one of the most sought-after defensive prospects in Europe.
The race to sign Huijsen next summer is heating up and Barcelona are certainly one of the main contenders, alongside Real Madrid.
For Barcelona, Huijsen represents a long-term investment to reinforce their defence, but signing him won’t come cheap.
Bournemouth have set a €50 million release clause for the young defender, though Diario SPORT suggest they could demand as much as €55 million in negotiations next summer.

This poses a certain problem for Barça. The club still aren’t sure about their positioning in the context of Financial Fair Play and therefore, a lot could depend on player sales.
The delay of the Camp Nou project coupled with several other factors, including an inflated wage bill, have once again put economic pressure on Barça. Affording Huijsen, to that end, could become a challenge.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, are firmly in the mix and hold a key advantage: Huijsen is a lifelong fan of the club and has reportedly expressed a desire to join them.
The Spanish giants have already begun laying the groundwork to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu, potentially swaying his decision.
Barcelona, therefore, might have to end up finding other alternatives in the market, if they are to shore up their ranks in central defence next summer.
