Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski was recently awarded the title of best footballer of 2024 by the Polish weekly magazine Pilka Nozna, a prestigious accolade he has won multiple times.

The 36-year-old striker also granted the same publication an interview, where he discussed various topics, including his relationship with Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Raphinha.

Having been at the club for more than three years now and grown into a key figure, Lewandowski also spoke freely about Barcelona’s financial situation, praising the work done by Joan Laporta and his board.

“This is truly an interesting subject,” Lewandowski started off when asked about the Blaugrana’s economic problems in the recent past.

He then went on to provide an analysis of the club’s current state and the work carried out by Barça president Joan Laporta, saying:

“If someone observes everything from a distance and reads about various issues in the media, it may seem that everything is going wrong….”

However, he did not share this view, stating: “I have a different perspective; I am close to the situation and I know that, little by little, good times are approaching for this club.”

Looking back, Lewandowski admitted: “When I arrived in Barcelona, I was aware of the challenges this club was facing.

“The club was perhaps on the brink of bankruptcy just a few years ago, but what the board and the president have done over the last four years to overcome the financial crisis…

“I feel a lot of admiration and respect for these people, for their efforts to put the club back on the right track.”

Lewandowski also added that sometimes he gets frustrated when he reads things that contradict the information he knows to be true, as he revealed:

“And when reading about our problems, it is also worth remembering that Spanish media is divided between pro-Barcelona and pro-Real Madrid. Therefore, there is a constant search for something negative in a positive situation and vice versa.”

“If one club does something well, the other will always find something wrong and cleverly publicise it,” he concluded on the subject.
